Brief Profile

Dr. Sumera Zaib is serving as Professor in the Department of Basic and Applied Chemistry at the University of Central Punjab, Lahore. She earned her M.Phil. (2010) and PhD in Biochemistry (2016) from Hazara University, and completed a DAAD-funded research fellowship at the University of Bonn, Germany. She worked as an Assistant Professor (IPFP) at International Islamic University, Islamabad from August 2017 to August 2018. She has successfully produced a book, 8 book chapters and >200 meritorious publications in highly prestigious international journals with h-index of 41 and >1000 impact factor with more than 5300 citations. Her achievements include the Prof. Dr. Asghar Bajwa Gold Medal (2025), Research Excellence Award (2025), UCP Best Researcher Award (2021), and multiple PCST and COMSATS Research Productivity Awards. She has also been ranked among the top 2 % scientists globally in 2024 and 2025. Besides excellent teaching and research output, she has supervised and co-supervised 15 PhDs, >45 MS/MPhil and >100 UG students. Additionally, she has been involved in organizing international and national conferences, workshops, symposia, and for many of which she has served as a resource person and delivered various presentations in both national and international conferences. She currently leads a Pakistan Science Foundation project (PKR 4.65 Million) on phthalazine-based enzyme inhibitors and has completed two BioSolveIT (Germany) projects on HIPK3 (2023) and serine proteases/COVID-19 (2022). She also serves on the HEC National Curriculum Review Committee, Board of Advanced Studies and Research, and PSBMB as Associate Secretary. Her research interests are centered around the Protein Chemistry and Enzymology with special emphasis on the identification of potent structural leads of biological importance. Her group also work on various aspects of Clinical Biochemistry, Organic chemistry, Enzyme inhibition studies, Bioinformatics, Vaccine Design, Mutational Analysis, Recombinant DNA Technology, agricultural chemistry, wastewater treatment and industrial biotechnology.
Beyond academia, she collaborate with NovaMed Pharmaceuticals, Esteem Pharmaceuticals, and the University of Calgary, Department of Clinical Neurosciences, and signed an MoU with the University of Sharjah (UAE). She has also organized major conferences and workshops (including the 15th Biennial “Trends in Molecular Biology” April 2025, NAPRECA Winter School 2024, lab orientation hands-on trainings), delivered invited/keynote lectures nationally and abroad (University of Sharjah, NUST, COMSATS, Helping Hand Institute), and completed training (DAAD summer visit 2014, Pak-UK Research Capacity Building, Balanced Scorecard bootcamp, EndNote & program assessment trainings).
