Institutional Review Board (IRB-ERC)
The Institutional Review Board (IRB) is a governing body established to protect the rights and welfare of human research subjects recruited to participate in research activities conducted under the auspices of the institution with which it is affiliated.
The IRB is in charge of reviewing all research involving human participants (whether funded or not) prior to its start. The IRB is concerned with safeguarding human subjects’ welfare, rights, and privacy. The IRB has the authority to approve, disapprove, monitor, and require changes in all research activities that fall under its jurisdiction, as defined by federal regulations and institutional policy.
