LCCI Visit to UCP

Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization hosted a delegation from the Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry (LCCI) to explore opportunities for enhanced industry–academia collaboration. The delegation included Founding Convener of Industry-Academia Linkage Mr. Umer Saleem, Vice Chairman of Entrepreneur Council Pakistan Mr. Faisal Iqbal Sheikh, and Ms. Aimen. The meeting was chaired by Pro-Rector Hammad Naveed and attended by Director ORIC Muhammad Akhyar Farrukh, Dean Faculty of Science and Technology Dr. Hafiza Rizwana Kausar, and ORIC Research Associate Faiza Anum. Discussions focused on strengthening industrial partnerships, promoting the commercialization of UCP research and prototypes, and identifying strategic opportunities for long-term collaboration. Following the meeting, the delegation toured UCP’s research and innovation facilities, viewing commercially viable technologies, developed products, and ongoing research projects. Mr. Umer Saleem appreciated UCP’s innovation ecosystem and ORIC’s efforts in research commercialization, proposing a one-day exhibition of UCP technologies at LCCI, renewing the MoU between the two institutions, and connecting ORIC with LCCI’s sector-specific committees to facilitate product commercialization. The delegation also supported the proposed 3+1 model for the BS Chemistry program, enabling students to spend one year in industry for practical experience and stronger industry engagement.

Strategic PI Meeting for PHEC Flagship R&D Cluster on Minerals and Rare Earth Metals

Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization hosted a meeting of Principal Investigators (PIs) of the Punjab Higher Education Commission’s (PHEC) flagship Research and Development Cluster on Minerals and Rare Earth Metals on 28 January 2026 at UCP. Led by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Akhyar Farrukh, Head of the Department of Basic and Applied Chemistry, UCP, and Principal Investigator of the cluster, the meeting brought together Co-Principal Investigators from leading institutions, including Dr. Tahir Ahmad from the University of the Punjab and Dr. Muhammad Shahzad from UET Lahore. The discussion focused on strategic budget planning, development of a comprehensive research roadmap, and the implementation framework, emphasizing interdisciplinary collaboration, institutional coordination, and efficient resource utilization. The meeting marked a key step toward operationalizing this provincial flagship initiative.

German Importers Association Delegation’s Visit to UCP

Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization hosted Dr. Michael Arretz, Managing Director of the German Importers Association, and Mr. Sarim Mehmood, CEO of Fruit of Sustainability, for an interactive meeting with UCP Pro-Rector Dr. Hammad Naveed to explore collaboration opportunities, strengthen international market linkages, and enhance UCP’s engagement with global industry partners, particularly in sustainability, wastewater treatment, and export potential. During the session, Director ORIC Prof. Dr. Muhammad Akhyar Farrukh presented UCP’s key innovation initiatives, including the wastewater treatment project, fly ash bricks, and industry-ready prototypes from the food, pharmaceutical, and engineering sectors, which were highly appreciated for their commercialization potential. The delegation also toured UCP’s major research and innovation facilities, including the Wastewater Treatment Plant, Engineering Lab, COFIC, and Takhleeq, with participation from the Dean FOST, Director Innovation, faculty members, and the ORIC team.

ORIC-UCP–IWMI Collaborative Meeting on Soil Moisture Sensor Development

Office of Research, Innovation, and Commercialization’s meeting with the International Water Management Institute focuses on advancing UCP’s initiative to develop an indigenous soil moisture sensor. The session is chaired by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Akhyar Farrukh, Director ORIC, and includes a detailed presentation by Dr. Sarfraz Munir, Senior Regional Researcher at IWMI. He outlines traditional irrigation water monitoring methods and explains the working principles and efficiency of the Chameleon soil moisture sensor, encouraging in-house development to reduce reliance on imported devices. The meeting is attended by Dr. Fesal Toosy, Dr. Ali Ahmad, Mr. Jaleel Asghar Mirza, Dr. Rabia Tehseen, and Dr. Faiza Anum. Faculty members and researchers discuss opportunities for collaborative research focused on advancing water-efficient agricultural solutions.

ORIC x Creative Group of Companies Industry Meeting

Office of Research, Innovation, and Commercialization organized an industry meeting with the Creative Group of Companies to finalize joint projects and initiate field trials in key areas of mutual interest. The collaborative discussions focused on the research and development domains of Biofertilizer Quality, Cost Control, Multiple Gas Absorber System and Gas Storage. The meeting was graced by Mian Sultan Mahmood, CEO Creative Group of Companies, along with his professional team, and Prof. Dr. Muhammad Akhyar Farrukh, Director ORIC, accompanied by faculty members from the Department of Basic and Applied Chemistry. The session was effectively coordinated by Dr. Muhammad Perviaz.

Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization continues to strengthen academia-industry linkages through impactful collaborations. a strategic meeting was held between UCP and Agrimore PvtLtd., paving the way for joint research in “sustainable technologies and agricultural innovation”. The meeting was chaired by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Akhyar Farrukh, Director ORIC, and attended by Mr. Asif Lone, Director Technical (Agrimore PvtLtd.), along with faculty members Dr. Shafiq Ur Rehman, Dr. Muhammad Afzal, Dr. Muhammad Perviaz, and Dr. Muhammad Riaz from UCP’s Faculty of Science and Technology.

ORIC x Enrichers Investment Group PSF-Approved Nano-Clay Project Collaboration

Office of Research, Innovation & Commercialization, led by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Akhyar Farrukh, held a meeting with Syed Abdullah Bukhari, Founder & Chairman of Enrichers Investment Group. The discussion focused on collaboration for the PSF-approved project “Commercial Manufacturing of Liquid Nano-Clay for Arid Land’s Irrigation and Water-Conserving Capacity.” Key topics included industry partnership, commercialization strategies, investment opportunities, and national-scale deployment of the innovative nano-clay technology. Enrichers Investment Group expressed strong interest in supporting the development, implementation, and market expansion of the project.

5th FIPP Pre-Placement Meeting

Office of Research, Innovation, & Commercialization held the 5th FIPP Pre-Placement Meeting, bringing together industry partners and faculty to explore collaborative opportunities and strengthen faculty placements. Mr. Arfat Ashraf, CEO of Together, emphasized the importance of collaborative projects between academia and industry. Mr. Ahsan Shahzad, Founder of Ahsan Legal Services, offered insights into legal practice and highlighted opportunities for law faculty to acquire practical experience during placements. Law, linguistics, literature, and language faculty actively engaged in the meeting, reinforcing UCP’s commitment to bridging academia and industry. The meeting concluded with a shared vision to advance research collaboration and impactful faculty engagement.

Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC) convened the 4th Faculty Industry Placement Program (FIPP) Pre-Placement Meeting, bringing together representatives from Fruit of Sustainability and the Pakistan Institute of Living & Learning (PILL) to explore potential collaborative opportunities for faculty placement, development, and industry engagement. The meeting was chaired by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Akhyar Farrukh, Director, ORIC, and attended by Dr. Faiza Anum, Research Associate, ORIC, and members of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. Mr. Sarim Mehmood, CEO, Fruit of Sustainability, highlighted the importance of conducting workplace surveys, developing HR practices, and fostering social dialogue, with an emphasis on the role of trained psychologists. As part of the FIPP framework, faculty members will undergo training provided by Fruit of Sustainability to enable their participation in field surveys and workforce training initiatives. Ms. Uzma Omer, Special Advisor, PILL, introduced a paid internship program for UCP Postgraduates that offers training in mental health and community outreach, specifically focused on breast cancer support and suicide prevention.

The meeting was attended by senior leadership and faculty members from UCP, including Dr. Hammad Naveed, Pro-Rector, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Akhyar Farrukh, Director, ORIC, Prof. Dr. Hafiza Rizwana Kausar, Dean, Faculty of Science & Technology, and Dr. Faiza Anum, Research Associate, ORIC. Distinguished industry representatives included Mr. Hameed K. Lateef, CEO, TTI Testing Laboratories, Mr. Rizwan Ahmad, COO, Unity Foods, and Mr. Faizan Ahmed, Chemical Engineer, Sky Power Limited. Additionally, Faculty representatives from the Faculty of Science & Technology (FOST) and the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences (FOPS) actively participated in the session.
