ORIC’ Pre-Placement Industry Meeting

Office of Research, Innovation, and Commercialization (ORIC) held a Faculty-Industry Engagement Meeting aimed at fostering strategic partnerships between academia and industry, enabling faculty members to align their research expertise with emerging market needs. The meeting was attended by senior leadership and faculty members from UCP, including Dr. Hammad Naveed, Pro-Rector, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Akhyar Farrukh, Director, ORIC, Prof. Dr. Hafiza Rizwana Kausar, Dean, Faculty of Science & Technology, and Dr. Faiza Anum, Research Associate, ORIC. Distinguished industry representatives included Mr. Hameed K. Lateef, CEO, TTI Testing Laboratories, Mr. Rizwan Ahmad, COO, Unity Foods, and Mr. Faizan Ahmed, Chemical Engineer, Sky Power Limited. Additionally, Faculty representatives from the Faculty of Science & Technology (FOST) and the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences (FOPS) actively participated in the session.

The meeting covered challenges and opportunities in the industrial sector, including outreach barriers, biofertilizer research, climate-resilient crops, sustainable agriculture, flood-resistant infrastructure, and water retention techniques. It aligned academic skills with industry needs, paving the way for impactful collaborations and faculty-industry placements

Key topics included types of intellectual property rights, national and international patent filing procedures, commercialization strategies, and guidelines from IPO Pakistan and USPTO. Participants explored what qualifies as patentable, how to draft and structure patent applications, and how to respond to objections during the prosecution process.

The session also featured live demonstrations of online tools such as the USPTO Patent Center and the IPO Pakistan e-journal, enabling participants to track patent progress and access published applications.

By focusing on transforming academic research into tangible, commercial outcomes, the workshop encouraged faculty to pursue innovation, institutional consultancy, and long-term research impact—reinforcing ORIC-UCP’s mission to promote applied research and knowledge transfer.

ORIC’s Faculty-Industry Engagement Meeting

Office of Research, Innovation, and Commercialization (ORIC) at UCP successfully hosted a Faculty-Industry Engagement Meeting, with the objective of promoting collaboration between academia and industry. The meeting was attended by Prof. Dr. Hammad Naveed, Pro-Rector; Prof. Dr. Muhammad Akhyar Farrukh, Director ORIC; Dr. Faiza Anum, Research Associate, ORIC; industry representatives from Vital Petroleum (Pvt.) Limited and Dafi Labs Pvt. Ltd., as well as faculty members from FOITCS, FOE, and FOMS. Mr. Moaz Ali, Head of HRD at Vital Petroleum, discussed the challenges they face in fabrication and stressed the growing need for experts in civil, mechanical, and electrical engineering at their manufacturing facilities. Mr. Muhammad Waqas, Founder & CEO of Dafi Labs, focused on the integration of blockchain and artificial intelligence to foster innovation. The session united academia with industry challenges, promoting impactful collaborations, innovative research, and faculty placements.

ORIC’S Commercialization Visit

The Office of Research, Innovation, and Commercialization (ORIC) at UCP organized the first pre-placement meeting under the Faculty Industry Placement Program 2025. The session aimed to strengthen academia-industry linkages by connecting faculty members from different faculties with industry representatives from Siemens Pakistan Engineering Co. Ltd. and ML Beach (Pvt) Ltd.
Key points in the discussion included collaborative research, faculty placements, aligning academia with industry demands, and overcoming challenges in student induction. Industry representatives, including Mr. Ahmad Azhar, Manager Sales, Electrification & Automation, Siemens; Mr. Ashfaq Ahmed, Head of Corporate Business Development, Siemens; and Mr. Qazi Ammar Arshad, Co-Founder & President, ML Bench, attended the meeting. The session was also graced by the presence of Dr. Hammad Naveed, Pro-Rector; Prof. Dr. Muhammad Akhyar Farrukh, Director, ORIC; Dr. Faiza Anum, Research Associate, ORIC-UCP; and 14 faculty members from FOIT&CS, FOE, FOMS, and FMMC.

Tech Transfer

Prof. Dr. Engr. Kafeel Ahmed, HoD Civil Engineering, UCP, along with Prof. Dr. Khurram Rasheed, UET Lahore, conducted a structural inspection of IZHAR Group’s multi-storied under-construction building at Gulberg, Lahore. A detailed report was prepared, ensuring quality, durability, and safety standards.
The IZHAR Group is a partner and sponsor of Civil Engineering Department, FOE for regular holding of International Conferences on New Trends in Civil Engineering. IZHAR has shown keen interest in sponsoring the next coming 3rd International Conference on New Trends in Civil Engineering at UCP.

ORIC’s Visit to Sky Power Ltd.

Office of Research, Innovation, and Commercialization (ORIC) organized a visit for the Department of Basic & Applied Chemistry, Faculty of Science and Technology (FOST). The team, comprising Dr. Muhammad Perviaz, Dr. Muhammad Afzal, Dr. Muhammad Riaz, and Dr. Salma Batool, visited Sky Power Ltd. During the visit, the delegation engaged in discussions with the Sky Power officials, focusing on removing impurities such as hydrogen sulfide and carbon dioxide through scalable and sustainable methods related to advanced biogas purification techniques. The team emphasized the need for monitoring systems equipped with sensors to track gas composition, pressure, and flow, thereby enhancing plant performance and facilitating early detection of faults. Additionally, the team explored the potential for converting biogas slurry into high-quality biofertilizers and investigated methods to enhance the quality and yield of biogas by increasing the methane content and optimizing the feedstock composition.

ORIC’s Visit to Agrimore (Pvt.) Ltd.

Faculty of Science and Technology, in collaboration with ORIC, organized an industry visit to Agrimore Pvt. Ltd., Kasur. The delegation met with Agrimore officials, including Mr. Ahmed Ali, CEO; Mr. Shahroz Ajaz, Marketing & Business Head; and Mr. Asif Lon, Director, to discuss potential research domains and long-term collaborative projects. The meeting was a crucial step in bridging the gap between industry and academia to solve real-world challenges through joint research.

Exploring the future of intelligent vision-based robotics and sustainable technologies at the UCP ORIC Interdisciplinary Research Group Meeting. Dr. Sadaf Zeeshan, from faculty of Engineering, presented an interdisciplinary research project on intelligent vision based robotic systems for efficient and sustainable harvesting, followed by an engaging discussion with faculty members and students. The event concluded with closing remarks by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Akhyar Farrukh, Director ORIC, emphasizing the value of interdisciplinary research and collaboration at UCP. The session was highly productive and provided valuable insights into potential avenues for future interdepartmental project collaborations.

ORIC-UCP Successfully Conducted Hands-On Perfume & Scent Making Workshop

The Office of Research, Innovation & Commercialization (ORIC), University of Central Punjab, successfully organized a Hands-On Perfume & Scent Making Workshop on 14 January, 2026 at the Biochemistry Lab, B-Building, UCP.

The workshop aimed to equip participants with practical skills in fragrance formulation along with essential knowledge of branding, marketing, and commercialization. The session received enthusiastic participation from students, young researchers, and aspiring entrepreneurs, reflecting strong interest in innovation-driven business opportunities.

The training was conducted by:

Mr. Tauqeer Hussain, Head, Cosmetics Section – IrfanScienceWala (Pvt.) Ltd.
Dr. Muhammad Riaz, Associate Professor, Faculty of Science & Technology (FOST-UCP)

Participants received hands-on exposure to:

Fundamentals of perfume and scent formulation
Understanding top, middle, and base notes
Ingredient selection and safe handling
Professional perfume blending techniques
Product development for market readiness
Branding, pricing, marketing, and commercialization strategies

The session concluded with a Certificate Distribution Ceremony, where certificates were distributed by the Director ORIC, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Akhyar Farrukh, who appreciated the participants’ enthusiasm and emphasized ORIC-UCP’s continued commitment to fostering innovation, entrepreneurship, and industry-linked capacity-building initiatives.

ORIC’s International Seminar on Smog Pollution in Lahore

The Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC) and the Faculty of Science and Technology (FOST) successfully organized a seminar titled “Smog Pollution in Lahore: Causes, Consequences, and Control (From Sampling to Solutions)” on 15 January, 2026, at University of Central Punjab, Lahore.

The guest speaker, Dr. Haider A. Khwaja, an Associate Professor at Department of Environmental Health Sciences from the University at Albany, USA, shared expert insights into the environmental challenges of smog. The discussion moved from scientific sampling to practical solutions, highlighting the university’s commitment to addressing local environmental issues under the joint project started in 2023 between University at Albany, USA and UCP, Lahore. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Akhyar Farrukh and Dr. Haider A. Khwaja are principal investigators of the joint project.

The session was honored by the presence of the Pro-Rector, Dr. Hammad Naveed, who graced the event along with Prof. Dr. Hafiza Rizwana Kausar (Dean, FOST), Prof. Dr. Muhammad Akhyar Farrukh (Director ORIC), Representative from EPA, HODs, Faculty Members and Students. Dr. Hammad Naveed provided the closing remarks for the session. The seminar received an overwhelming response with around 145 registered participants, leading to a house-full venue.
